An upmarket residential area with the air of a country estate and the elevation of a hillside position surrounded by protected nature yet just a few minutes from downtown Marbella and its beaches? You’d think it doesn’t exist, but it does, and it’s called Sierra Blanca.
A country estate on the edge of Marbella town
The semi-gated villa suburb of Sierra Blanca has a truly distinctive air about it; peaceful leafy residential streets with little passing traffic, luxurious homes set upon spacious private plots, secure entry and a small collection of ultra-luxurious apartments mark the scene. The imposing backdrop is that of magnificent views to nearby La Concha Mountain and down the gently cascading slope of gardens to the sea. Indeed, from here the Mediterranean shimmers in the sun.
It doesn’t take much to view a wide expanse of sea and shoreline from here, extending all the way to Gibraltar and North Africa. The scenery on the inland border is one of towering mountains and at their base a protected natural reserve that Sierra Blanca backs on to, enabling residents here to enjoy wonderful country walks amid wooded hillsides and gurgling mountain streams. All this within a few minutes of nearby Marbella town, the Golden Mile and Puerto Banús.
Sierra Blanca is dotted with naturally occurring umbrella pine, which together with the trees and landscaped gardens planted here makes for a wonderful melange of Mediterranean and semitropical greenery. This exclusive residential zone dominated by spacious villas was first developed in the 1980s, and really took off in the 1990s, with much of the area consolidated in the years that followed. Now it is an established villa suburb with a variety of attractive homes.
Privacy in the midst of Marbella
Sierra Blanca is also known for the fact that it offers residents a great degree of privacy, security and tranquillity. Indeed, it offers a refined country club environment close to nature and richly endowed with spectacular views, and yet it is within a highly central and convenient location that brings downtown Marbella, the elegant pleasures of the Golden Mile, the diversions and shopping of Puerto Banús, La Cañada shopping mall, international schools and also the golf courses of Nueva Andalucía to within a few minutes.
Having all of this so close to hand while living within an area of natural beauty and seclusion is one of the great attractions of Sierra Blanca, which while it doesn’t have its own golf club is within five minutes of the Los Naranjos and Aloha golf courses. Dining, shopping, beaches, professional services and schools are all just as close, and of course the setting, views, properties and prestige of this elegant zone make it particularly sought after.
The upper end of the Golden Mile
The quality and standing of this part of Marbella is such that it is considered to be the upper end, or ‘hillside extension’ of the Golden Mile, connected to it by an older villa suburb called Nagüeles and itself boasting Cascada de Camoján, a ‘country club within a country club’ and also the most upscale part of Sierra Blanca. Here you will find beautiful villas within a select gated community that borders protected nature amid a privileged outlook over all that is Marbella.
The villas in this northern extension of the town range in size from compact luxurious homes to veritable mansions, also including luxurious apartments, penthouses and architecturally styled townhouses, while the price range and styling is also diverse, with the latter favouring a luxurious interpretation of Mediterranean design set within lush gardens, often with a long list of amenities and comforts. Together, all these elements make Sierra Blanca one of the finest addresses on the Costa del Sol.
