Peaceful and elegant, the leafy streets of Guadalmina Baja are lined with some of the finest villas in Marbella. At a stone’s throw from the traditional Spanish town of San Pedro Alcántara, it is one of the most exclusive and private beachfront suburbs in Marbella while also offering frontline golf views.

Stately golf suburb by the sea

The combination of a beachfront location and a luxurious villa suburb set upon the parkland landscape of a classic golf course is a rare one in Marbella as in many other locations. This rather unusual set of circumstances gives Guadalmina Baja a prime setting that is greatly appreciated by discerning homeowners from across Spain, Europe and beyond.

Famous Residents

In fact, members of the Spanish royal family are known to spend their holidays here and greatly enjoy the understated style of Guadalmina and the chance to visit its fine dining spots. Another famous face not quite as successful at avoiding the paparazzi is supermodel Naomi Campbell, who loves to stroll along Guadalmina’s beaches when visiting the area, while Spain’s former prime minister, José María Aznar, likes nothing better than to jog along the peaceful, leafy streets when he spends August here with his wife Anna Botella, mayor of Madrid. Royalty, celebrities and statesmen enjoy the refined ambience of Guadalmina, and in summer one might even be able to glimpse them all at one of this prestigious suburb’s stylish restaurants or beach clubs.

For all its convenient positioning close to the little town of San Pedro Alcántara, the marina of Puerto Banús, the country ambience of Benahavis and the downtown area of Marbella, Guadalmina Baja is a bastion of peace and privacy, where the broad residential streets are largely free of traffic and the beaches remarkably free of crowds in spite of the fact that they contain some stylish beach clubs as well as the five-star Hotel Guadalmina Golf & Spa Resort.

Living between fairways and the beach

The lower lying of two Guadalmina golf courses threads through this exclusive community that is also home to one of the finest private schools on the Costa del Sol. Just across the coastal road is the Guadalmina commercial centre, with its banks, supermarket, cafés, restaurants, boutiques and professional services. Whether you enjoy frontline beach or golf views – or both – both visual delights are never more than a short stroll away, and both dominate the senses here.

Originally spotted by Navarino entrepreneur Norberto Goizueta from his yacht back in 1933, Guadalmina was at first one of many farming estates in the area, but in the 1950s the wheat and corn fields were replaced with immaculate grass lawns, and the first golf course in the Marbella area was opened in 1959. The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, whose south course is located within Guadalmina Baja, has gone on to become one of the most prestigious golfing venues in Southern Spain, and one that has hosted many top international tournaments.

The land in this part of the coast is level, so both the golf course and the villa plots characteristically feature manicured parkland greenery flanked by mature trees and flowering plants. Guadalmina Baja is an established residential area with little land left to construct, but many of its properties have in recent years undergone a process of modernisation and in some cases even complete reconstruction.

Between Golden Mile and New Golden Mile

It would be hard to better the location and qualities of Guadalmina Baja, which explains why so many beautiful properties can be found here. Besides easy access to the beach and venues such as Dantonella’s Beach Club and the ever-popular Chiringuito Sol Beach, residents are also close to Marbella’s classic Golden Mile and the extensive beaches and coves of the New Golden Mile, not to mention the open nature to explore just inland. For this reason alone, Guadalmina Baja ranks as one of the top addresses in Marbella.

But there is more to recommend it, from impressive golf and sea views to a rare links course that skirts the beach, not to mention villas of exceptional quality on large, level plots. The majority of the properties for sale in Guadalmina Baja are villas, including some to renovate and those already modernised and featuring stylish new design. In addition, there is also a small but quality collection of frontline beach apartments and penthouses with stunning sea views, as well as large, luxurious townhouses that personify the tasteful quality and refinement that is Guadalmina Baja.
